"The thesis is an exploratory study into whether the RCMP job simulation exercise (JSE) for promotion is a valid instrument for identifying potential leaders. The question is whether the JSE is biased in terms of a relationship between JSE scores and thinking styles of members. The study uses a mixed methodological approach to collect data in three areas from ten RCMP regular member participants based on interviews and the administration of the HBDI and CLEO instruments.The study finds there are grounds to be concerned that the JSE may not be a valid instrument. While the study is limited in size, scope, and method of selecting participants, the study recommends that: (1) validity measures relied upon by the RCMP be re-examined; (2) further research be conducted on a larger scale; and (3) consideration be given to exploring alternative methods of measurement for promotion."--Abstract.
