In September 2008, Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston, Texas. A category 2 hurricane with a category 4 storm surge, Ike resulted in catastrophic flooding 12 hours prior to landfall. When such a destructive event occurs, fire departments must be prepared to handle not only pre-storm preparations, but also post-storm short- and long-term recovery.
