Repentigny
The Repentigny Police Service created a group to combat emerging crime phenomena.
At the outset, the initiative was designed to respond to an increased presence of people associated with street gangs. This increased presence was noted at licensed establishments and in the moves of several families from Montreal and/or Laval. The team’s initial objectives were to support traffic patrol operations, create ties with bar owners to establish a relationship of trust and cooperation, create ties with new residents (youth) to establish a relationship of trust, and develop expertise for addressing this situation. The identified emerging criminal groups are associated with street gangs and the Reds in particular.
