This is an inter-departmental effort to minimize the impact of Internet child exploitation offences on young New Brunswickers. Participant ministries include Public Safety, Justice and Attorney General, Education and Early Childhood Development, and Social Development.
This strategic framework will address the total scope of Internet child exploitation by focusing on the following objectives:

Involvement has been consultative during the strategy development stage; however, each stakeholder will be expected to be directly involved once the strategy is implemented—particularly the previous ministries mentioned.

The initiative was undertaken to address the ever-growing concern about the impact of this type of offence on young New Brunswickers.
There have been no significant direct costs to date, with the exception of employees’ time and effort.
This initiative is being implemented through a phased-in approach and is at the project approval stage at this point.

This is an example of how other government stakeholders are becoming engaged in a prevention issue that has traditionally been addressed by law enforcement. Although law enforcement has been contributing to this prevention effort, it is not the lead (in contrast to what is typically the case).
