Summary
"This research explores the realities of the RCMP initiating the collaborative development of a restorative justice template with a focus on First Nation communities. A multi-method action approach was utilized to engage the targeted participants. A multi-method approach was the most appropriate process due to the geographic separation of the researcher and the participants. The research was designed to ascertain the viability of developing a restorative justice template for implementation of a restorative justice committee within the First Nations communities. The needs to have a segment for community-specific sanctions were also addressed. The findings of this research project indicate the overwhelming support for such an initiative. With the Aboriginal community moving toward self-government and the RCMP devoting specific initiatives to the Aboriginal community, this research should develop roots very quickly as it moves toward implementation. The restoration of relationships from a holistic perspective is complementary to Aboriginal culture."--Abstract.
