Summary

Presents the findings from research conducted by the Australian Institute of Criminology undertaken in partnership with ACT Policing to evaluate the operation and effectiveness of policing strategies directed at reducing and preventing alcohol-related violence in licensed premises and entertainment precincts in the Australian Capital Territory. Key features of the recommended approach to policing licensed venues include: adoption of a long-term, well communicated strategy; better enforcement of legislation; wide publicity for breaches; quality data for intelligence led policing; ongoing monitoring to measure impact of enforcement; better training for officers in the new liquor licencing team; and close liaison with licensees and bar staff.
