Note
"Note: About this ICAT Training Guide--This report is a summary of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Training Guide on Use of Force. The complete Training Guide, with all related materials, is available online at www.policeforum.org/TrainingGuide. The online Training Guide will be a “living document.” Over time, as new materials become available, such as police body-worn camera footage of new incidents that illustrate training principles, they will be added to the online Training Guide."
Summary
This guide attempts to fill the gap in training for different types of dynamic and potentially dangerous encounters. It presents model lesson plans and support materials (including PowerPoint presentations, video recordings of use-of-force incidents, and other resources) in the key areas of decision-making, crisis recognition and response, tactical communications and negotiations, and operational safety tactics. The guide integrates these skills and provides opportunities to practice them through video case studies and scenario-based training exercises.
