Ottawa, March 8, 2012 — The Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, today announced appointments to the Parole Board of Canada.
“Our Government is committed to ensuring that appointments to the Parole Board of Canada are based on merit and ability,” said Minister Toews. “As an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities, it is imperative that we appoint highly-qualified and committed people.”
Appeal Division
Howard M. Bruce, of Sainte-Foy, Quebec, is appointed as a full-time member to the Appeal Division. Mr. Bruce was first appointed as a part-time member to the Board in September 2010. He is a lawyer and has worked for various law firms as well as having his own private practice. Prior to his appointment to the Board, Mr. Bruce was a member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada, and taught paralegal studies at the Collège O'Sullivan.
Atlantic Region
Wilfred (Hal) Davidson of Moncton, New Brunswick, is re-appointed as a full-time member. He was first appointed to the Board in May 2007. Mr. Davidson was the Warden of Westmorland Institution, a minimum-security facility. He first joined the Correctional Service of Canada in 1984 as a parole officer. Mr. Davidson was Assistant Warden at Westmorland Institution from 1995 to 1996, and Deputy Warden at Dorchester Penitentiary from 1996-2005.
