Ottawa, Ontario – April 18 – The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, today commended the efforts of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on their announcement in Montreal today of a significant seizure of hashish, and the resulting arrests of eight individuals.
“The benefits to Canadian families and communities stemming from such arrests and seizures cannot be emphasized enough. The production and trafficking of illicit drugs is one of the root causes of violent crime,” said Minister Toews. “Our government commends the efforts of the RCMP and the CBSA, as well as the international law enforcement agencies, who, through cooperation and collaboration, took action to make these arrests.
Our Government will continue to work with domestic and international partners to address the global drug problem. We are committed to fighting crime and protecting Canadians so that our communities are safe places for people to live, raise their families and do business.”
