OTTAWA, May 13, 2012 - The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, released the following statement today offering thanks on behalf of all Canadians to federal, provincial, municipal and aboriginal law enforcement officers on the occasion of National Police Week, which runs from May 13 – 19.
“Police Week is an important opportunity to honour the men and women who dedicate their lives to the safety of our families and our communities. Canadians can take great comfort in knowing that police officers from across the country bring such a high level of commitment, courage and professionalism to their job to protect our families. On behalf of all Canadians, we thank you. Your important work upholds our government's commitment to tackling crime and to keeping Canadians safe.
During National Police Week, we call on all Canadians to take time this week to show appreciation for the outstanding officers in their towns and cities who work to keep our streets safe, secure and prosperous.”
