OTTAWA, ONTARIO, November 13, 2012 — The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today regarding the death of Constable Adrian Oliver, a member of the Surrey, B.C. detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Constable Oliver who lost his life today while on duty. His family has a long tradition of service to the RCMP and this loss will be felt by many.

This is a very sad day for all Canadians. The death of a police officer in the line of duty reminds us of the devotion and sacrifice of those who serve each day to keep us safe."
