OTTAWA, December 6, 2012 – The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Regional Minister for Manitoba, today issued the following statement to mark the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Change of Command Ceremony in honour of outgoing Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner D.W. (Bill) Robinson, and incoming Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Kevin C. Brosseau, in Winnipeg.

“I congratulate Assistant Commissioner Brosseau on his new role as Commanding Officer of “D” Division. Assistant Commissioner Brosseau has extensive and varied experience with the RCMP. In addition to his operational and general investigative background, he was responsible for directing the development, implementation and monitoring of national policies, procedures and standards governing RCMP Contract Policing, including Provincial, Territorial, Municipal and Aboriginal policing. Most recently, he played a key role in the development of Bill C-42: Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act.

I would also like to thank Assistant Commissioner Bill Robinson for the strong leadership and dedication he has demonstrated as “D” Division Commanding Officer, and for his more than 30 years with Canada's national police force. I wish him all the best in his new career with the Province of Alberta.”
