Ottawa, ON - June 18, 2013 - Public Safety Minister Vic Toews made the following statement after the Canada Border Services Agency today announced the arrests of Dean Wayne Morris and Joleen Kelly Patterson, as well as the removal of Wesly Obas Denis. Each had appeared on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list.

"I would like to commend the Service de police de Laval, the Toronto Immigration Task Force and CBSA officers for their efforts to apprehend and remove those who threaten the safety and security of our communities. Individuals who misrepresent themselves to our authorities and who abuse our generous immigration system have no place in a law-abiding society."

Wesley Obas Denis was removed from Canada on June 10th, after his arrest on May 24 by the Service de police de Laval for using a false identity. Denis was inadmissible to Canada for having been convicted of offences outside of Canada that if committed in Canada, would have constituted a Canadian offence. He was convicted in the United States of aggravated harassment in the 2nd degree and attempting to sell cocaine.

The Toronto Immigration Task Force (ITF) arrested Dean Wayne Morris on June 5th in Brampton Ontario. Morris was arrested following a year-long investigation by the Toronto ITF, which is composed of Royal Canadian Mounted Police and CBSA Officers. Morris is inadmissible to Canada for having entered Canada using a false passport and for having been convicted of an offence outside of Canada that if committed in Canada, would have constituted a Canadian offence. He was convicted of robbery in New York in 2004 and was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The second individual, Joleen Kelly Patterson was arrested on June 13th in Toronto, Ontario.  Patterson is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality. She was convicted of importing a narcotic substance.

To date 43 individuals have been apprehended from the Wanted by the CBSA list, of which 32 have been removed. Eight individuals have also been located abroad.
