Purpose : This project will lead to the creation of a culturally relevant program in the Northwest Territories targeting men who are at-risk of using violence toward their partner and/or children. This project will feed into the gap in knowledge around the development of culturally sensitive programs, tools and resources for high-risk men who use violence in intimate relationships and are at-risk of re-offending in a northern and Aboriginal context. The expected outcomes of this project include: the creation of an Advisory Committee with established terms of reference; the collection of information about programs for abusers and about NWT and northern community initiatives; an increase in knowledge of promising programs for men who use violence; the development of a culturally sensitive program model that includes standards and accountability structures, curriculum, training and evaluation frameworks; the development of a targeted public education plan to disseminate the knowledge acquired throughout this project and the implementation of culturally sensitive programs for men who use violence designed for the Northwest Territories.
