Purpose : |
Phase II of the Dealing with Homophobia project will focus on the expansion, evaluation and promotion of the resources developed in the first phase of this project. Phase II builds on general knowledge that homophobic harassment and violence is pervasive and nationwide and youths who are identified and identify as LGBT experience greater vulnerability to suicide, physical assault, mental health issues and verbal abuse. In this second phase, the Society for Safe and Caring Schools and Communities will increase resources targeted for students and involve youths in the design and development of new resources. Youth will be trained to conduct research in their schools and communities and to use the data to design and facilitate workshops that engage their peers in discussions around diversity, equality and human rights, bullying, violence and harassment due to homophobia.
