Purpose : |
A comprehensive individualized wraparound approach that addresses multiple risk factors in Aboriginal youth at-risk living in the downtown core of Merritt will be used. The approach will include interventions to target those risk factors that will include: substance abuse issues, truancy or drop out from school, lack of recreational activities and criminalized parents or siblings.
The project will use a wraparound service approach which has shown promise in diverting high risk youth away from violence and crime toward leading more productive and positive lives. The foundation of this community-based highly individual approach is to identify the services needed by the youth and their family and provide those services for as long as they are needed.
In order to provide the youth and their families with the intensive individualized support needed to assist them to move away from a life of crime and substance use/abuse, participants will continually undergo needs assessments in order to ensure that they are receiving the most appropriate services and support needed as they progress through the project.
