Purpose : |
Project activities are aimed at increasing awareness and providing tools for parents to enhance their parenting skills. They will be developed and sustained in collaboration with the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission, as well as First Nations Education Council. The project proposes a master program to develop parenting skills, including design, production and distribution of five educational tools:
- the “Parentochtone” guide, where parents can find essential knowledge, attitudes, skills, responsibilities and values to develop in their role of responsible parents;
- The CD accompanying the guide and presenting the key material in the “Parentochtone” guide. It aims to reach parents who do not come to the meetings;
- about 15 hours of parental training meetings presented through an extended format (6 meetings of 2.5 hours each spread out over 6 consecutive weeks);
- a series of radio broadcasts providing parents with the key points contained in the guide;
- approximately 30 hours of training meetings for workers to enable them to conduct the parental training meetings, to get involved with the parents, to improve the quality of their daily, individual interventions and to help make all messages by all workers to parents more consistent.
The project is divided into twelve separate steps, the most important being to develop, test and produce educational tools, carry out a four-step training process, broadcast radio programs in a two-step process and, of course, assessment and distribution.
