Purpose : The overall purpose of this project is to continue the momentum that has been generated from the community around crime prevention issues and to implement strategies developed by community members. Engaging individuals in recognizing and addressing crime, building stronger neighbourhoods, advocating more neighbour to neighbour communication and ncouraging community ownership and responsibility for making changes will lead to less crime and a healthier community. A safer community, education, awareness and project implementation will benefit everyone from young to old. Planned activities for “Community Connectedness” include:·Host Conversation Cafés and Community Meetings·Say “Hi” Program· A conference for the community on Crime Prevention·Continue adding resources to the lending library accessible to the community· Design and make available a “Neighbourhood Toolkit”·Workshops/guest speakers available to the community and agencies·Develop a Website Building on programs and activities developed during the first year of the initiative.·Work with community agencies to support the development of a youth council.·Support and provide information for parents with children involved with substance abuse.· Continue to increase community awareness through resources and workshops.·Campaign to promote a safety awareness for adult females in the bar around GHB (date rape drug)·Supporting community initiatives on harm reduction in sex trade workers· Continue developing and implementing plans put forth by the subcommittees (Substance Abuse Coalition, Building Families Subcommittee, Building Neighbourhood Connections Subcommittee, Communities Against Bullying & Hazing Subcommittee, and the Adhoc Subcommittee)
