Résumé

Historically, there has been little emphasis by police agencies on considering other strategies in the deployment of their duties under the mental health act and how strategies, such as verbal skills, could de-escalate a potentially difficult situation. A major aim of this resource guide for police is to fill this gap by offering practical strategies to safely handle mental health situations until appropriate psychiatric services can be accessed.
