"Elder abuse is a complex phenomenon that still lacks a single consistent definition (Anetzberger 2005; Erlingsson 2007). Since elder abuse was first discussed as a social problem in the mid-1970s, research into the prevention, detection, and understanding of victims and perpetrators has increased. Much of the research that has been conducted on elder abuse to date has been centered on prevalence, typology, and defining issues, including detection and risk indicators (Erlingsson2007).
