Ottawa, Ontario – February 22, 2012 - The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, commended the efforts of the Canada Border Services Agency on the seizure of a large number of smuggled firearms and other weapons at the Coutts, Alberta port of entry. The suspect is now in RCMP custody.
“This is welcome news for communities across Canada, and clearly demonstrates that our officers are vigilant in disrupting this illegal activity. These types of weapons are often used to commit violent crime," said Minister Toews. “We commend the efforts of our border services officers for their success in taking them off our streets and out of our communities.
Our Government is committed to fighting crime and protecting Canadians so that our communities are safe places for people to live, raise their families and do business.
