OTTAWA, September 8, 2013 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today paid tribute to firefighters who lost their lives, remembered at the 2013 Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.

"Today, we remember the firefighters who paid the ultimate price to protect their communities. They served with great honour, and their bravery will not be forgotten," said Minister Blaney. "On behalf of our Government and my fellow Canadians, I wish to offer my condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their lives and their devotion to service."

The Government of Canada commends the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation for their efforts and dedication to preserving the memory of the heroes lost in the line of duty.
