"The following report discusses many of the issues that were identified over the course of the Breach of the Peace hearings. It incorporates the comments and perspectives of hearing participants, as well as other observations that both NUPGE and the CCLA have made through their experiences monitoring and participating in G20-related demonstrations and review processes. The thematically organized report touches upon several key issues, including whether the use of force, detention, search and arrest powers by police was consistent with constitutional and international standards and whether the security and policing strategies implemented in relation to the G20 were sufficiently respectful of the rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. In doing so, it elucidates many of the problems associated with Summit security and offers recommendations as to how public order policing operations could be more respectful of civil liberties in the future."--Page 17.
